Become a Mentor — 100% Free

And while most only physically prepare for that first year, we prepare them mentally.

Why it matters

Prepared mentally, not just physically

22% of college freshmen drop out every year, many of them student-athletes.

And while most only physically prepare for that first year, we prepare them mentally.

Eligibility

Who we select

Open to

Juniors, Seniors, and recent graduates from Byron P. Steele High School and Samuel Clemens High School

Selection

H.O.P.E. Leadership Group is looking for exceptional past and present student-athletes who are ready to lead. Admission into the mentor program is highly selective. Mentors are chosen by school administration and staff based on demonstrated character, integrity, and honesty over 3 to 6 years at their school, combined with above-average academic standing.

If you’re selected, you’ll be paired with two 7th or 8th-grade athletes from Dobie or Corbett Junior High and given everything you need to guide them through a 4-week program. All curriculum and materials are provided. You bring the leadership!

Commitment

What we ask of you

  1. 01

1 daily communication with each mentee — a text, a call, a positive quote, or a motivational video can positively set the tone for the entire day.

  2. 02

1 weekly face-to-face session with each mentee at a mutually agreed-upon location. Regular in-person meetings act as an effective shield against depressive symptoms and reduce anxiety levels.

  3. 03

All curriculum and materials are provided by H.O.P.E. Leadership Group staff and customized for your mentee. No lesson planning required.
